WILDPLAY DISCOVERY

In collaboration with Collins and Turner

Location: Centennial Park
Client: Botanic Gardens and Centennial Parklands
Project dates: 2018

Centennial Park is one of central Sydney’s greatest and most loved natural assets. The project brief was to develop a concept master plan for the Wild Play Discovery Centre precinct, located in the north east of the park, adjacent to the Ian Potter Wild Play Garden. The vision is for the site to be a Centre for Excellence for Nature Play, a hub of nature play training and development and the strongest nature play community in NSW.

The project team led by Collins and Turner architects developed an integrated landscape and architectural strategy for the precinct. The site's distinct character, with its grove of casuarinas, landmark figs and riparian zones, has been amplified through the landscape design strategy. The landscape proposal reflects the core philosophy of landscape and nature as mentor and creates a wide range of key learning areas for children of ages. A series of bespoke, carefully crafted elements have been developed to provide new teaching places and habitats for endemic species.
